The fifth speaker of the Thought for Food Webinar is neurobiologist Vivi Heine from VU University. Heine will talk about the possibilities to take skin cells from the human body and reduce them to stem cells.
After four successful webinars in the Thought for Food series, it's now time for the next lecture by neurobiologist Vivi Heine from VU University.
Nowadays it is possible to take skin cells from the human body and reduce them to stem cells. Those stem cells can then be sent back to develop into all kinds of other tissue, including brain cells. Sounds futuristic? Not for neurobiologist and associate professor Vivi Heine (VU University). She is an expert in the field of these developed stem cells, so-called iPSCs, and takes us into her research field during this upcoming webinar. How do you actually make these stem cells? How do they help us understand and fight diseases? What are the medical risks and societal implications?
The session will be moderated by Hanneke Hulst and during the webinar, as always, there will be room to ask all your questions via chat.
