How aware are you of the ethical and legal frameworks surrounding vulnerability when conducting research?

On Monday, May 13, the APH-SIG ‘Creating awareness of frameworks surrounding vulnerability’will organise a third (and final) lecture on dealing with vulnerability when conducting scientific or practice-orientated healthcare research.

In this lecture, entitled ‘Legal-ethical principles of vulnerability in research (and policy)’, Eva Asscher and Vivianne Dörenberg outline the ethical and legal playing field in which research with vulnerable people takes place. What does the law say about dealing with vulnerability when conducting research? What measures have been taken by law for protecting and ensuring meaningful and effective participation of vulnerable people in research? And what was the thinking behind this? Together we reflect on these frameworks and then discuss a case based on the question ‘What are key considerations here for dealing with vulnerability in a good way?’

The meeting will end with a general reflection on the continuation of the APH-SIG ‘Creating awareness of frameworks surrounding vulnerability’ by Brenda Frederiks.
