To understand how humans control their bodies in active, mobile situations, we need to quantify brain dynamics in these situations. High-density electroencephalography (EEG) hardware and data processing algorithms have greatly advanced in the last 20 years, enabling researchers to gain new insight into brain dynamics during human locomotion and other whole-body movements. This presentation will highlight some of the ongoing technical challenges and solutions to mobile brain imaging with EEG. Examples of recent findings on electrocortical activity during challenging human motor tasks will emphasize the value of the approach and show how electrical dynamics of the brain can help in diagnosing and treating motor disorders.
