The Dirkje Postma Talent Award allows Jurjan Aman to study the role of blood vessels in emphysema. Emphysema, a form of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), is a chronic lung disease which is characterized by damaged air sacs in the lungs (alveoli). It has become increasingly clear that there is injury of the blood vessels surrounding these alveoli, leading to vanished blood vessels. Visit the Lung Foundation website for more information (in Dutch).
With the Dirkje Postma Talent Award, worth 200,000 euros, the Dutch Lung Foundation encourages young, talented researchers to further develop their research. The award is supported by the donors of the Lung Foundation.
