Strictly necessary cookies
We make use of strictly necessary cookies. These cookies are essential in order for the website to function correctly, and are sometimes also referred to as essential cookies.They are used to enable forms to work properly, for example, and to keep the website connected to the same server during your visit. In this way, your website visit runs as smoothly as possible.These cookies involve limited use of your data. Your data is shared only with the website builder and/or host, and remains within the EU/EEA. If you wish to visit our website, you cannot refuse these cookies.
Analytics cookies
We also use analytics cookies. These cookies are used for analysing data relating to use of the website, so that we can improve such use and increase the user-friendliness thereof. This covers data concerning, for example:
- Which of our website's pages are visited the most often;
- How visitors have come to visit our website;
- Which search terms visitors use in our search engine;
- Which types of devices are being used to visit the website.
Limited use is made here of your data, and your IP address is masked, as a result of which this address cannot easily be traced back to you. Amsterdam UMC uses the analytics software Piwik PRO Analytics Suite for this purpose. This has been audited by the French regulator responsible for personal data and is regarded as being privacy-friendly.As is the case with essential or strictly necessary cookies, only the supplier of analytics software (Piwik PRO) and the EU/EEA-located website developer and host can access this data, and you cannot refuse these cookies, because they have little influence on your privacy.

The cookies on www.amsterdamumc.nl
An overview of the cookies which may be placed on your device during your visit to our website is provided in the table below.
Cookie type | Name of cookie | What and why | Retention period |
---|---|---|---|
Analytics | _pk_id | Provides each device with a unique number (ID) by means of which we can recognise returning visitors. As a result, we can improve the website and monitor any differences in behaviour between new and returning visitors. | 13 months |
Analytics | _pk_ses | Keeps the session active for up to 30 minutes following the last activity. After this, the visit is considered to have ended. In this way, we can register the pages visited in one session, in order to see whether a visitor has achieved his or her objective. This provides us with input to improve the site. | 30 minutes |
Analytics | stg_externalReferrer | Checks how visitors have come to visit our website. In order to potentially optimise, including in relation to the sites from which external traffic has come. Everything to make the client’s journey as beneficial as possible. | Duration of the visit session |
Analytics | stg_last_interaction | Determines the moment of the visitor’s last activity. Through this we see how often a visitor returns and when he/she last visited. This provides us with insight to aid the improvement of the site. | 365 days |
Analytics | stg_returning_visitor | Provides an indication of whether a visitor has already visited the site previously. Through this, we can recognise whether the visitor is new or returning. Should it transpire that a returning visitor is having difficulty in navigating our website, we can make improvements in light of this. | 365 days |
Analytics | stg_fired__<conditionID> | We use this cookie to ensure that, as a visitor, you do not receive repeat notifications of anything during a single session. This produces the correct user experience. | Duration of the visit session |
Analytics | stg_traffic_source_priority | Checks how the visitor has arrived at the website. Directly, via a referring website, social media, search engine or campaign. This provides insights which can be used to analyse the quality of the channels that make reference to our website. Where such quality is inadequate, we can make optimisations within those channels. | Duration of the visit session |
Analytics | stg_utm_campaign | Recognises the campaign source from which a visitor has come to the site, e.g. from our newsletter. We use this to analyse whether our means of communication are effective. | Duration of the visit session |
Strictly necessary cookies | Retain visitors’ consent status (i.e. whether someone has accepted or refused cookies). This ensures that visitors do not receive repeat notifications in this regard. | 12 months | |
Strictly necessary cookies | If, as a visitor, you decline to choose whether or not to accept cookies, you will receive another notification asking you to make a choice. | Duration of the visit session | |
Strictly necessary cookies | JSESSIONID | When you make use of a webform that requires step-by-step completion, this cookie recalls what you have already filled in, so that you do not have to do so again. This functions as a kind of temporary identification which ensures that the website knows that all steps in the form pertain to the same person, i.e. you. | Duration of the visit session |
Strictly necessary cookies | X-CSRF-Token | This is a security measure which prevents others from being able to make unauthorised changes on a website on your behalf. It works through the addition of a unique code (token) to a form. When you complete and send the form, the website checks whether the code is correct. Should this not be the case, the activity is blocked, as a result of which you are protected against attacks involving others attempting to change something without you wanting them to do so. | Duration of the visit session |
Strictly necessary cookies | BIGipServer~DMZ~pool-www.amsterdamumc.org-https | This cookie ensures that, during your visit to a website, you remain connected with the same server. Imagine that you are having a conversation with someone, and continually have to talk to a different person. That would be confusing. This cookie ensures that, during your visit, you remain in conversation with the same ‘person’ (server), so that everything continues to run smoothly. This is called a “sticky session”. | Duration of the visit session |
