The Valorization Compass is an important step in implementing Amsterdam UMC's valorization policy. Following the 2023 publication of a position paper focusing our valorization vision, the phase of broadly rolling out the policy has now begun.
Powerful Tool
The Valorization Compass was created in collaboration with the Amsterdam Valorization Board and Innovation Exchange Amsterdam (IXA). According to vice dean of valorization Arjen Brussaard, it's a powerful tool that helps researchers turn their knowledge into societal innovations faster: "It enables us to collaborate quicker and purposefully with external partners, thus increasing the impact of our research." The Valorization Compass is a supporting document; you don't need to read it in full or from cover to cover, but can use it well as a reference or handbook.
Frontrunner
The Valorization Compass is part of Amsterdam UMC's broader strategy to give valorization a central role within the organization. By stimulating public-private partnerships and supporting academic entrepreneurship, Amsterdam UMC hopes to achieve innovations that benefit healthcare and society as a whole. With this approach, Amsterdam UMC positions itself as a frontrunner in knowledge valorization in the medical sector.
Societal Advisory Board
A Societal Advisory Board has now been appointed, consisting of representatives from citizens, patients, entrepreneurs, trade associations, healthcare insurers, and educational institutions. Their role is to hold Amsterdam UMC accountable, allowing external perspectives to contribute to our valorization policy. On November 8, the Societal Advisory Board will receive the Valorization Compass from the hands of Executive Board Chairman Hans van Goudoever.
