About 150 cardiovascular researchers from Leiden and Amsterdam gathered in Noordwijkerhout on the 1st of November to attend the 15th Rembrandt Symposium. This yearly event is meant to exchange the latest cardiovascular research findings and stimulate collaborations between Amsterdam and Leiden.

The Rembrandt Symposium is dedicated to promote the exchange of recent research findings. Researchers presented their work in either plenary oral or in blitz presentations during the parallel sessions. The first keynote lecture of the day was given by Prof. Dr. Frances the Man and was titled ‘Right heart failure in pulmonary hypertension’. In the afternoon, Prof. Dr. Twan de Vries gave his keynote lecture, titled ‘I am what I am’. In between sessions, there was the opportunity to network and socialize.

Awards and Rembrandt Grant

The day ended with an award session for the speakers at the symposium, the HeART in science award and the Rembrandt PhD grant. For the HeART in Science award, researchers could submit an image or photograph with both scientific as well as aesthetic value. The Rembrandt Grant is meant to stimulate collaboration between the two cities. Researchers from Amsterdam UMC and LUMC had to submit collaborative a project together. With the grant they receive funding for a PhD student, who will be working at both Amsterdam UMC and LUMC.
