The Imaging Center forms a stimulating environment for multidisciplinary translational research and education, and contributes to innovation and sustainability of healthcare.

About us

Medical imaging comprises a range of cutting edge technologies that, according to the New England Journal of Medicine, has "changed the face of clinical medicine".  However, in a world where only 25% of the prescribed anti-cancer drugs have therapeutic benefit, we at Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc and VU University believe that there is still much to be done. The fast pace of innovation in these technologies presents expert centers such as ours with a wonderful opportunity to further improve patient care. And these improvements will be profoundly felt by patients the world over, especially those at the mercy of such debilitating illnesses as cancer, Alzheimer's, and auto-immune diseases.

Education

Being an academic hospital, Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc will have on staff the best radiographers, imagers and imaging specialists, thanks to its extensive catalogue of in-house training programs. These range from basic radiography training to residencies in radiology and nuclear medicine, as well as several post-graduate courses and fellowships, for example morphological, molecular and interventional imaging, radiochemistry, quantitative imaging, as well as a range of courses in medical physics. As a reflection of the trends in the underlying technology, we will expand our focus on the training of multi-modality imaging specialists.
