General

The first Ask-Me-Anything session of Amsterdam UMC after the summer holidays will be dedicated to research. During this session participants will learn more about the latest developments in research policy and research support.

During the session three presentations will be held, namely:

Structurally additional money
Within the NFU, the umbrella organizations have written a plan to strengthen research and education in the medical sector. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has provided structural extra money for this. Also for Amsterdam UMC. The deans have invited six 'theme leaders' to make plans that are in line with the research strategy of Amsterdam UMC. These include prevention, collaboration with the region, data-driven work and strengthening the translational chain. In other words, the translation of laboratory research into clinical research and then into practical application. Hans van Goudoever (Board of Directors) will explain the status of this 'sector plan'.

Review of non-WMO research
All so-called WMO research (research with human subjects) must comply with the Medical Research Involving Human Subjects Act. The research design must be reviewed by the medical ethics committee (METC). At the VUmc location non-WMO protocols must also be reviewed. At the AMC location this review is not yet mandatory. The review of non-WMO research will now be introduced nationwide. This means that the obligation will apply to the entire Amsterdam UMC. A new committee will be set up for this purpose under the METC. Hans van Goudoever will also elaborate on this.

Legal support and data-driven work
Researchers at Amsterdam UMC are supported in various areas. During the online meeting, the Legal Research Support department will explain the new way of working that should reduce waiting times for researchers. Furthermore, the Research Data Management department will tell more about a number of new tools to further facilitate data-driven work.

In addition to these presentations, there will be an opportunity to ask a questions. During the session participants can ask a question or make a comment via the chat window. This can also be done in advance via vraagmaarraak@amsterdamumc.nl. Questions and comments are submitted to the board of directors. Not all questions may be answered online.

Afterwards a short summary of the session will be published on Tulpintranet. It will also be possible to watch the online session at a later moment.
