A new round of the Amsterdam UMC Research Mentoring Program is open for registration! The program welcomes all academics under the Amsterdam UMC umbrella to join this program, which is meant for researchers affiliated to Amsterdam UMC research institutes from all levels (research nurses, technicians, PhD candidates, postdocs, assistant professors, associate professors, full professors), research fields (fundamental, clinical and translational research).
The purpose of the mentoring program is to offer and receive advice, support and guidance. The topics of discussion between mentees and mentors will be decided by the mentees based on their specific needs or challenges. Examples of topics, which mentees may want to discuss, include: how can I improve my CV? Which grants am I eligible for? How to solve an issue/disagreement with a colleague/PI? How do I maintain a good work/life balance? How do I know if I am suited for academia? What does it take to pursue an academic career? What other options are there beyond an academic career? and many other questions.
The mentoring program will run for one academic year, from October 2025 to July 2026. Mentors and mentees will be matched based on the information provided in the registration form. After matching mentors and mentees in the beginning of October, two kick-off meetings will be organized on October 27th (location AMC) and October 30th (location VUmc), from 16.00-18.00 hrs. Mentors and mentees are encouraged to meet-and-greet and you will receive a short guide on mentorship, mentor-mentee roles and expectations.
The kick-off sessions will begin with an introduction to the mentoring program (from 16:00 to 17:00), featuring insights and experiences from previous participants and guidance from an experienced coach on optimizing the program. Following this, there will be an opportunity for networking and drinks from 17:00 to 18:30. These kick-off meetings are for anyone interested in the mentoring program.
