Theme "Non-tuberculous mycobacteria: Typically Atypical Infections"

General

On Thursday evening, March 7th, MINC (Maastricht Infection Center) and LINK (IP & AMR Zorgnetwerk Limburg) will host their 5th joint symposium at a unique venue at Lumière Cinema Maastricht.

This time, the focus is on non-tuberculous mycobacteria: the typically atypical infection. Non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections encompass all infections caused by mycobacteria that are not tuberculosis. These infections can manifest in various parts of the body. The symposium will feature various specialists discussing different types of NTM infections, diagnostics, and treatment options.

The cases to be discussed will be recognizable for medical specialists as well as general practitioners and geriatric specialists. NTM infections typically involve an immunocompromised patient with a persistent infection that does not improve with antibiotic and steroid treatment. Unfortunately, NTM infections are often overlooked, especially in primary care.
