ADORE (Amsterdam Oncology and Neuroscience Research) represents a groundbreaking approach to collaborative research at Amsterdam UMC. Despite differences between cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, ADORE focuses on their shared mechanisms to accelerate medical breakthroughs.
ADORE Research & Diagnostics Center
The new ADORE Research & Diagnostics Center at Amsterdam UMC will be the largest onco-neuro campus worldwide, bringing together over 2,000 researchers from Cancer Center Amsterdam, Amsterdam Neuroscience, and the Amsterdam Institute for Immunology and Infectious diseases. Set for completion in October, this state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for collaboration. Experts will also work across other campus buildings, all with a shared mission: to deliver effective, personalized treatments for patients with cancer and brain diseases such as dementia and MS.
€9 Million Grant from NWO
The Dutch Research Council (NWO) has awarded ADORE €9 million as part of its €25 million KIC-LTP funding initiative. This funding addresses pressing societal challenges, including the rising rates of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases in the Netherlands. ADORE's 10-year, €30 million research program, supported by partners including Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Leiden University Medical Center, UMC Utrecht, TU Delft, OMAPiX and Pivot Park, will investigate shared molecular and cellular processes in cancer and neurological disorders to advance treatment options and develop innovative therapies.
The Largest Bingo Ever
Last month, 'The Largest Bingo Ever' campaign raised funds for ADORE, building on the success of the 2007 'Biggest Bingo' event. With the slogan "Join the Bingo against cancer and brain diseases—together we are stronger," the campaign was organized by the VriendenLoterij in collaboration with KWF, the MS Research Foundation, and the Herenstichting for ADORE. In 2007, the VriendenLoterij and Amsterdam UMC launched the 'Biggest Bingo Ever' to fund the rapid diagnostics clinic at Cancer Center Amsterdam. This year’s event is a continuation of that effort, this time supporting ADORE, another initiative by Amsterdam UMC.
