General

With primary progressive aphasia (PPA), problems with language and communication typically deteriorate gradually over time. Initial symptoms are sometimes attributed to anxiety or stress until the ongoing symptoms become disruptive enough to prompt further assessment by a specialist. This webinar is intended for clinicians to support early detection and accurate diagnosis of PPA.

Learners will be able to:

  • Describe the process for diagnosing PPA
  • Recognize the inclusion and exlusion criteria for making a PPA diagnosis
  • List common clinical presentations for PPA subtypes

The webinar will be presented by Dr. Marsel Mesulam. He received his B.A. (1968) and M.D. (1972) from Harvard. He is the Ruth Dunbar Davee Professor of Neuroscience and Founding Director Emeritus of the Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease at Northwestern University. Dr. Mesulam's current research focuses on the functional imaging of neurocognitive networks, the factors that promote memory preservation in advanced age, and the treatment of dementias.

The webinar is organized by the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD).
