Ever felt the conversation ends right at the moment when the idea begins? What if there were more room to stretch, to question, to think together? Even as the world’s tensions echo in our halls, we can still build spaces for learning and care. Join the first VU-wide dialogue!

Why this series?
In Conversation is a year‑long dialogue series to create space for open, and respectful dialogue across the VU community. This initiative is our response to the invitation from the rectors of Dutch universities, in which they called for a national dialogue. At VU Amsterdam, we want to create space for our own community to engage in meaningful conversations.

We bring students and employees together to:

  • listen and think together, make room for difficult questions and topics, and understand each other
  • reflect on the role of the university in times of tension and uncertainty
  • surface concrete ideas to improve our learning, research, and campus culture

Everyone in the VU community is welcome. We aim for a mix of all perspectives and viewpoints; registration helps us balance participation across faculties and roles.

What to expect

  • A space to think and learn together, where every perspective matters
  • Small‑group conversations guided by trained facilitators (world‑café / open‑space formats).
  • Mixed tables with students and staff from different faculties and perspectives.
  • Anonymized synthesis: after each session, we share themes and next steps — no attributions.
