The APH Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) committee has set several steps and goals to promote inclusive research. One of these goals is to inspire researchers to truly get to know their population or context of interest and we would like to encourage researchers to start with that at the beginning of their PhD trajectory.

With this we aim to inspire every PhD student to truly get to know their population of interest by immersing themselves in the specific context at the start of their research aiming to bridge the science to practice gap. This approach will help researchers to understand the context of their study, leading to improved, more thorough, and inclusive research. We aim to draft a protocol of this approach to be included in the APH PhD handbook.

The best way to do this, differs per project of course. Therefore, we would like to know your ideas about this plan and invite PhD students and (co)promotor(s) to think a long! Do you have ideas how to shape this? Or other suggestions? Please get in touch with Trees Juurlink (t.juurlink@amsterdamumc.nl) or Masha Zee (m.zee@amsterdamumc.nl).
