Society faces increasingly complex challenges related to sport, exercise and health. The Amsterdam Institute of Sport Science (AISS) is an ambitious network organization of experts and partners in sport science, education, healthcare and sport practice, that addresses these challenges from an interdisciplinary point-of-view. Our mission is to optimize health and performance based on our expertise in applied sport and the movement sciences and bridge the gap between science & practise.
AISS, as one of the twenty Sportinnovator centres is deeply integrated into practical sport-and health organizations. Their strength lies in enhancing collaboration with current partners to address both short-term and long-term projects. Moreover, they actively seek out new partnerships within the realms of sports, health, and education. Drawing upon expertise in diverse areas, they assemble the appropriate experts to effectively tackle these challenges. AISS focuses on four programs: Sport and Performance, Vitality, Adapted Sports, and Health in Sports. Each program has one or two program managers responsible for their expertise.
The AISS-Hub is a central meeting point where new collaborations thrive. It's where partners connect, students shape their academic future, and knowledge-sharing sessions bridge various scientific domains. Additionally, both established and new partners meet here to exchange ideas during meetings or networking events. Their impactful work is gaining traction as they start new alliances with entities like Ajax, UEFA, the Ministry of Defense, the Municipality of Amsterdam, and the Dutch National Opera, NOC*NSF, Fonds Gehandicaptensport, Topsport Amsterdam, Reade & OLVG.
