Considering the impact of cancer on the lives of so many, there is an urgent need to find ways to detect cancer early and develop more effective and curative treatments. However, much of how cancer develops is still unknown: we need more research – and research requires money. However, obtaining research funds is currently highly competitive and extremely challenging due to limited availability. Novel research concepts with little supporting data barely stand a chance. But pursuing novel lines of research that may bring the needed breakthroughs is also paramount. This is where Cancer Center Amsterdam Foundation makes a difference. Providing seed funds to transform novel concepts into actual supported research projects opens the door to unexplored possibilities that can make all the difference.

Recently, Cancer Center Amsterdam (CCA) Foundation (Stichting Cancer Center Amsterdam) announced financial support for ten innovative research projects to facilitate the cancer discoveries of tomorrow. This annual seed funding provides crucial support to early-stage new scientific concepts that would otherwise struggle to
find funding. The CCA Foundation grants give researchers a chance to explore
new possibilities and obtain supporting data and proof-of-concept that lays the
groundwork for applying for highly-competitive grants from established funding
agencies like the Dutch Cancer Society, the Dutch Research Council, or the
European Research Counsel.

The financial backing of Cancer Center Amsterdam Foundation opened the door to pursue our trailblazing research idea in the laboratory.

CCA Foundation also provides financial support for crucial infrastructure that is needed to support scientific discovery. Over the years, backing was provided for:

It is amazing to see what has been achieved over the years through the funding provided by Cancer Center Amsterdam Foundation. Without this, Cancer Center Amsterdam would not be the world class oncological research and treatment center it is today.

Cancer Center Amsterdam Foundation fundraising

Yessica Denisse manages fundraising activities for CCA Foundation and builds and maintains relationships with donors. The Foundation also has a Supervisory Board who are tasked with providing advice and help with fundraising. Revenues come from the Friends Lottery (de VriendenLoterij in Dutch) and loyal donors such as the Family of the CCA Foundation, among other sponsors.

Annually, the foundation grants at least € 1.2 million to researchers or facilities at Amsterdam UMC to find better treatments for patients with cancer. We are very
grateful to all donors for making this possible.
