A new BD FACSMelody Sorter has been installed at the 4th floor of the Cancer Center Amsterdam building in the Hematology department. Thanks to funding from Cancer Center Amsterdam Foundation, the machine will be available to all CCA researchers.

The new BD FACSMelody Sorter combines ease of use with high performance. It offers automated 4-way and 6 color cell sorting in a “closed” system. Another advantage is that the BD FACSMelody cell sorter is placed in a flow cabinet, so all viral transductions can be sorted and used in follow-up sterile cultures.

According to the manufacturer, the BD FACSMelody Sorter has the following advantages:

  • Easy to use: Automation of complex tasks and guided procedures facilitate consistent results, even when skill levels vary among users, to enable deep scientific insights for more researchers.
  • Lab efficiency and productivity: Save time and money with an affordable cell sorting solution based on a streamlined workflow to improve throughput, minimize downtime and promote experimental success.
  • High performance: A complete system of reagents, software and hardware works together to detect and sort low density cell markers and rare cells. The system delivers reproducible results while protecting the operator and the sample and enables sorting into tubes or a range of standard plates.
  • Trusted brand: Rely on highly responsive field service support and expertise in flow cytometry instrumentation and applications from BD, backed by more than 40 years of experience and innovation in flow cytometry and thousands of peer-reviewed publications citing BD flow cytometry instruments, software and reagents.

Technical information for experimental design

The BD FACSMelody cell sorter is equipped with a blue and yellow-green laser, it enables the detection of 6 colors, namely:

Blue laser detector A, BP 700/54 LP 665/5 (e.g. PerCP, PerCP-Cy5.5); detector B, BP527/32 LP 507/5: (e.g. FITC, BB515, GFP),

Yellow-green laser detector A, BP783/56 LP 752/10 (e.g. PE-Cy7, PC7); detector B, BP 697/58 LP 665/10 (e.g. PE-CY5.5, mPlum); detector C, BP 613/15 LP 605/10 (e.g. PE-CF594, mCherry, mStrawbery, mRasberry); detector D, BP 582/15 BP 582/15 (e.g. PE, dsRed, dTomato, RFP).
