    Kick-off Meeting: AI&I Theme Immune Homeostasis “The Immune System Unchecked” In January 2026, the AI&I community gathered for the kick-off meeting of the Immune Homeostasis theme, “The Immune System Unchecked.” Organized by theme leaders Joep Grootjans, Jan Van den Bossche, and Jochem Bernink, the event brought together researchers from across Amsterdam UMC and beyond to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange on immune homeostasis and its disruptions. The meeting featured a strong representation from diverse research areas, including infectious diseases, cancer, and immune regulation.

    ZonMw Open Competition grant for Onno Holleboom together with LUMC and Copenhagen ZonMw has awarded a ZonMw Open Competition Grant of EUR 918.491 to internist dr. Onno Holleboom for his collaboration with immunologist dr. Bruno Guigas and glycobiologist dr. Noortje Haan from LUMC. The GLYCELL project investigates how specific sugar molecules (glycans) influence communication between liver cells and contribute to the development and progression of steatotic liver disease (MASLD), aiming to provide new insights and targeted therapies.
