Focus of research

Carla van El is senior researcher at the Section Community Genetics, Department of Human Genetics, Amsterdam Public Health research institute, at Amsterdam UMC.

 

Carla is Secretary General of the Policy and Ethics Committee of the European Society of Human Genetics, and senior program council member of the Amsterdam Public Health research institute Quality of Care research program.

Her research interests include social and ethical aspects of developing and implementing genetic testing in healthcare and society.

Previous projects focused on history, policies and stakeholder views regarding screening, personalized medicine, and forensic testing.

Current projects entail developing a roadmap for personalised prevention in the EU PROPHET,
and governance of human germline gene editing in the Netherlands: De DNA Dialogen - praat mee over knippen & plakken in DNA.
