Focus of research

In my PhD research, I am focusing on personalized ventilation in the intensive care unit for patients with and without Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). I am currently involved in two international randomized controlled trials that explore the following approaches:

  • PEGASUS Study: This is a Phase 3 randomized controlled trial that employs a precision medicine approach. In the PEGASUS trial, we use lung ultrasound to assess ARDS subphenotypes and deliver personalized ventilation interventions based on these findings. These personalized strategies are compared with a standard ventilation approach to evaluate their effectiveness.
  • ACTiVE Study: The INTELLiVENT–Adaptive Support Ventilation (ASV) is a fully automated, closed-loop mode of ventilation designed for use in critically ill patients. However, evidence supporting the benefits of INTELLiVENT–ASV over non-automated ventilation in terms of ventilation duration and quality of breathing remains limited. In the ACTiVE study, we are testing the hypothesis that INTELLiVENT–ASV reduces the time spent on mechanical ventilation and improves the quality of breathing compared to standard ventilatory strategies.
