Focus of research
My line of research focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases of bacterial (eg, urinary tract infections, pneumonia) and viral (eg, COVID-19, Influenza) origin, in frail older adults (mainly nursing home residents). The aim of this research is to contribute to an improved quality of care for frail older adults by optimizing diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases, as well as to the prevention of (outbreaks of) infectious diseases and the development of antimicrobial resistance.
In my research activities, I have a strong focus on the translation of research findings into practice, illustrated by a variety of knowledge dissemination and implementation projects. To this end, I (closely) collaborate with practitioners involved in (nursing home) practice as well as with implementation and education experts. My research is mostly carried out within the Amsterdam UMC University Network of Organisations for care for older adults (UNO Amsterdam; www.unoamsterdam.nl).
