General

AI tools are becoming an integral part of academic work — from searching and summarizing literature to writing, analyzing data, and managing information.

Yet many researchers hesitate to use them: some aren’t sure how AI can add value, others feel technically unprepared, and some worry about ethics or reliability. This session helps researchers overcome these barriers with practical examples and clear guidance.

The session is led by Féline Mollerus, a PhD candidate at Amsterdam UMC with over six years of experience as a technical consultant on product development & data platforms. She brings extensive experience in safely applying (agentic) AI to sensitive medical data and exploring when and how AI can be leveraged versus when alternative (data) strategies are needed.

This session helps researchers to:

  1. Understand what AI can do for their specific research context (overcoming the knowledge barrier);
  2. Learn how to effectively use key tools like own GPT agents and research tools safely and effectively (tackling the technical barrier)
  3. Discuss ethical, privacy, and trust considerations in using AI for academic work (addressing the ethical barrier).

By the end of the session, participants will know how to use AI confidently and responsibly to support their research, without losing critical control or academic integrity.
