The Rembrandt grant is a grant to simulate collaboration between cardiovascular researchers from Amsterdam UMC and Leiden UMC. Each grant covers a position for a PhD-student (worth 250.000 euros) who will be working at both the LUMC and Amsterdam UMC side.

Dr. Annette Neele (Inflammatory Diseases program, Amsterdam UMC): “With this grant we will aim to define the molecular mechanisms by which DHCR24 inhibition impacts on immune cell function by increasing endogenous desmosterol levels and study how this affects atherosclerosis”.

The research project of Annette and Sander is officially titled: Inhibition of dehydrocholesterol reductase 24 (DHCR24) as a novel strategy to combat atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Annette Neele and Dr. Sander Kooijman received the Rembrandt award during the 13th Rembrandt Symposium. You can read more about this event here.
