General
Prof. Dr. Marie-Ève Tremblay (Division of Medical Sciences, University of Victoria, BC, Canada) investigates the role of microglia, the brain's immune cells, in neuronal circout remodeling, cognition, and neurodegenerative processes. Her research explores how microglial diversity and environmental factors such as stress, sleep disturbances, and aging influence brain function and pathology. Using ultrastructural, metabolic, molecular, and functional approaches, her lab uncovers how different microglial states shape neuronal networks. Tremblay pioneerd the shift from viewing microglia as passive to recognizing their continuous activity in health and disease. She is the Canada Research Chair in Neurobiology of Aging and Cognition and Editor-in-Chief of Glial Health Research. Recognized among the world's top 1% most cited researchers, her work bridges fundamental neuroscience and clinical applications, highlighting microglia as key players in brain health and disease.
