Elga de Vries, Professor of Neuro-Immunology and Scientific Director of the MS Center Amsterdam, will take on the role of Vice Dean of Research and Managing Director of AMR BV from June 1st. She will replace Mat Daemen in both positions, who recently retired from Amsterdam UMC.

Elga de Vries studied Medical Biology at Utrecht University and earned her PhD in Pharmacology at Leiden University. She has been part of Amsterdam UMC since 2000 as a researcher, focusing on brain immunology in Alzheimer's disease and MS. She currently serves as Professor of Neuro-Immunology and heads the Neuro-Immunology research group within the Department of Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology. Additionally, she has been the Scientific Director of the MS Center Amsterdam since 2021. She will continue her involvement in MS research and remain on the board of the MS Center Amsterdam for the foreseeable future.

Adjacent to her commitment to Amsterdam Neuroscience (AN) and Amsterdam institute for Immunology and Infectious Diseases (AII), de Vries is also involved in committees such as the Committee Talent and Appointment (CTA) and coordinates various educational programs. She is active in several committees outside of Amsterdam UMC as well. "Her expertise in research, education, and management make her a suitable successor to Mat Daemen," stated the board of directors.
