The executive board of Amsterdam UMC has appointed professor Martine de Bruijne, expert in Quality of Care, as vice dean of Education at the VU Faculty of Medicine, effective November 1, 2024. She will succeed Christa Boer, who began her role as dean of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the UvA on September 1.
As vice dean, de Bruijne’s main responsibility will be to contribute to the further development of the profile of the VU Faculty of Medicine. This will be guided by the core values that define the VU and its faculty, including a social signature with a focus on diversity and inclusion, as well as an emphasis on the extramural domain, meaning healthcare provided outside of hospital settings.
Professor and research director
Martine de Bruijne studied Medicine and Medical Informatics at the UvA, later supplementing her education with training in Social Medicine, specializing in Society and Health. Since 2017, she has been Professor of Quality of Care at the VU and Director of our interdisciplinary research institute Amsterdam Public Health. Throughout her academic career, de Bruijne has also developed and taught courses in the Medicine and Health Sciences programs, as well as in the postgraduate NFU Master’s program in Quality and Safety in Patient Care.
Extensive experience
De Bruijne brings extensive experience in research, education, and administration. With this background, she is well-suited to work as vice dean, collaborating with all stakeholders to innovate education and better prepare future doctors for the rapidly changing healthcare landscape.
