In accordance with national regulations, all research conducted within the Amsterdam Reproduction and Development (AR&D) research institute is evaluated every 6 years using the Strategy Evaluation Protocol (SEP). Results of the evaluation can be found below.

The main goal of the SEP is to maintain and improve the quality and societal relevance of research as well as to facilitate continuous dialogue about research quality, societal relevance and viability in the context of research quality assurance. This goal is accomplished by assessing a research unit in light of its own aims and strategy. The main document that forms the basis for the evaluation is a self-evaluation report written by the unit, in which it reflects on its aims, strategy and achievements during the previous six years as well as its aims and strategy for the future. The narrative is further illustrated by one or more case studies. The evaluation is performed by an assessment committee, consisting of independent academic peers as well as optionally non-academic experts. The assessment committee evaluates the unit based on the self-evaluation report and a site visit, during which it interviews delegates from the unit and other relevant persons.

2016

The AR&D research institute was established in 2016, when AMC and VUmc merged into Amsterdam UMC. At that time, AR&D was evaluated as part of the strategic evaluation of the AMC as a whole. Results of this evaluation can be found on the University of Amsterdam (UvA) website.

2017-2019

Halfway through the six-year evaluation period, a midterm evaluation can be done using the SEP. AR&D has done this over the 2017-2019 period. The results can be read in the summary below.

2017-2022

AR&D conducted its first six-year evaluation using the SEP, for the first six years of AR&D's existence: 2017-2022. One part of this evaluatin was to write a self-evaluation report. The summary of this report can be downloaded below.

On January 9 and 10, 2024, an external committee came to the Amsterdam UMC for a site visit, to complete the evaluation of our research institute. These days were filled with interview sessions uncluding the AR&D board, researchers, PhD students, postdoc and midcareer researchers, the management of Division Women Children, the staff advisor of the Amsterdam UMC Doctoral School and members of the Amsterdam UMC Mentoring program, impact developers and business developers, and a visit to the Dutch Fetal Biobank and Museum Vrolik.

Based on this site visit and AR&D's self-evaluation report, the committee wrote a review report, which included reviews of issues raised in the self-evaluation report and several recommendations for the future.
