General

In the seminar 'Team Science: How we learn, share, value and reward teamwork in science’ we will explore the added value of teamwork in research teams, how team achievements can be better recognised and rewarded, how to overcome common obstacles, and how we can give team science a stronger place in education. Research performance is often still linked to a single lead author, while the work itself is carried out by team members with diverse roles and contributions.

Programme

The afternoon kicks off with an inspiring keynote by Prof. Dr. Albert Polman, Professor of Photonic Materials for Photovoltaics at the Faculty of Science. Together with his team, Albert won the NWO Team Science Award in 2023. After the keynote, we will open the floor for lively conversations with researchers from a range of disciplines. They will share their experiences with Team Science in practice and inspire us with concrete examples. Our speakers include:

  • Prof. Dr. Stefania Milan, Professor of Critical Data Studies, Faculty of Humanities
  • Dr. Roosmarijn van Woerden, Lecturer in Interdisciplinary Social Science and TLC Research Fellow, Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences
  • Prof. Dr. Marija Bartl, Professor of Transnational Private Law, Faculty of Law
  • Prof. Dr. Shaul Shalvi, Professor of Behavioural Ethics, Amsterdam School of Economics

This seminar is organised by Dr. Ingmar Visser, Associate Professor of Developmental Psychology (Faculty of Behavioural Sciences), and Prof. Dr. Ir. Paul de Jong, Professor of Physics (Faculty of Science), in collaboration with the Recognition & Rewards programme team at the University of Amsterdam.

We welcome everyone engaged with this theme: early career scholars who would like to participate in teams, more senior researchers interested in the possibilities, policy makers, managers, and others.
