Last year Cancer Center Amsterdam tried to organize the first Darm-to-Darm ride from AmsterDARM to DARMstadt via the vineyards of COLONjes and the beautiful city of COLOgNe. This sponsor ride was supposed to be connected to a colorectal cancer symposium the day before the ride.

Unfortunately COVID-19 forced us to cancel the symposium and to change the D2D-ride into a national tour from AmsterDARM to Rectum to COLONjes. Despite the fact that we had to cancel most of the event, we had a beautiful ride with a great team. Moreover, it also left me with an even stronger urge to organize the ride properly. So I am glad to announce the Darm-to-Darm ride its full glory. Please check www.darm-to-darm-ride.nl for info.

So if you enjoy cycling and you are not afraid of a serious cycling challenge read on and see if you want to join us in July 2021. LIMITED SPACE AVAILABLE.

On July 2nd we will hold a symposium on colorectal cancer (mark your calenders) and will end the symposium at 19.00 with the start of a 24hr ride to Darmstadt. The idea is that you cycle the 525km as a relay with one team mate. While one of you is cycling the other one is resting in campers or vans. Every 60-80km you can change places and as such you both cycle around 260km (more is obviously allowed and possible when you both decide to cycle). We will cycle throughout the night and reach Darmstadt after a beautiful tour along the Waal and Rhein before 19.00 on Saturday the July 3rd. There a hotel and good food will await you. The next morning we will drive back to Amsterdam.

All cost for the ride, food and hotel are taken care off by the organization. What you need to do is to get as many sponsors that will support every kilometer you cycle. All sponsoring you raise, and you have to put some effort in this as well, will go to the Cancer Center Amsterdam to support colorectal cancer research.

Now we realize that this is not a ride you do easily and it will require serious practice and stamina, but on a positive note it will give you something to look forward to and give you all the more reasons to stay active and healthy in the coming 5 months. Of course you should not underestimate the distance and a bit of experience with longer cycle tours is more than crucial. That said I would love to see your enthusiastic reactions and you need to be quick as space for participation is limited and the first 5 teams have already signed up.

So please mail me (j.p.medema@amsterdamumc.nl) directly if you are interested. If you do not have a team mate yet don’t worry we will mix and match if needed.

Looking forward to your cycle team that will support the Cancer Center Amsterdam
