Menno Schoonheim will succeed Elga de Vries as the Scientific Director of the MS Center Amsterdam from June 1, 2024. From that date onwards, Elga de Vries will assume the role of Vice Dean of Research at Amsterdam UMC.

Elga de Vries

Elga de Vries has been affiliated with Amsterdam UMC since 2000 as a researcher, focusing on brain immunology in Alzheimer's disease and MS. She currently holds the position of Professor of Neuro-Immunology and heads the Neuro-Immunology research group within the Department of Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology. Additionally, she has been the Scientific Director of the MS Center Amsterdam since 2021. She will continue her involvement in MS research and will remain a part of the Board of the MS Center Amsterdam for the time being.

Menno Schoonheim

Menno Schoonheim is a neuroscientist and has been affiliated with Amsterdam UMC since 2007. He heads the Clinical Neuroscience research group within the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience. His research group focuses primarily on understanding and predicting progression in MS using advanced MRI measures and
studying brain networks. Menno Schoonheim has been a member of the Board of the MS Center Amsterdam since 2021 and will assume the role of Scientific Director from June 1, 2024.
