Research misconduct: bad practices, prevention and dealing with suspected violations

A lack of integrity in research may lead to research misconduct, which has important negative consequences. Although their embellished output may attract increased funding and boost their reputation in the short term, the long-term consequences can be disastrous.

Presentation of invalid scientific results undermines scientific progress.
Research misconduct in biomedical studies compromises the trust that patients, research organizations and society have in research methods and results.
Such misconduct can damage patients’ health and healthcare in general.
Fellow scientists need to be confident of the absence of misconduct to enable collaboration and to use or build on the research findings of others.
