As of September 2021, Frank van Leth (Associate Professor of Health Sciences at VU Amsterdam) is the new Vice-Director Amsterdam Public Health. He will take over this role from Carlo Schuengel (Professor of Clinical Child and Family Studies at the VU Amsterdam).
Frank van Leth has an extensive research portfolio in the fields of HIV and tuberculosis (TB). As an epidemiologist, he has a personal affinity for novel, yet contextually relevant, methodological approaches for capturing public health needs and designing appropriate interventions.
Frank van Leth’s research spans nearly two decades with a wide variety of projects that can best be described as being on the crossroads of infectious diseases, implementation, and research methodology. His current research focusses on surveillance strategies for antimicrobial resistance in the human and the veterinary domain.
Until taking up this position, Frank van Leth has been the chair of TBnet, a European consortium with over 600 members that contributes to interdisciplinarity TB-related research and education, with a strong emphasis on capacity building among early-career physicians and researchers.
Frank van Leth is also an Associate Editor of the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.
