Content

  1. Please find forms required for admission to and completion of the doctoral programme on the UvA website.
  2. You can attend an online beadle class (not mandatory) every Monday in Dutch at 10.00h or in English at 12.00h. You can join this class without signing up. Your ceremonial assistents* (paranimfen) are welcome to attend this class as well. Or view the beadle class video.
  3. Family, friends and colleagues (and other interested parties) who are unable to attend the ceremony in person can watch the defence via livestream. The unique livestream link will be sent to you by the UvA Beadle approximately four to six weeks before your ceremony. It will remain available for viewing for 30 days following the ceremony, after which it will be taken offline.
  4. The link will be made public in the Events calendar on the UvA website. If you object to this, please send an email to the UvA Beadle's office.
  5. Committee members based outside the Benelux, or those with very serious limitations/reasons preventing them from traveling to Amsterdam, may participate via Zoom. They will receive a Zoom link from the beadle, via the supervisor (promotor).
  6. Approximately two weeks before the ceremony, the presiding beadle will contact the supervisor(s), who will then indicate who will be participating online.
  7. In case one or more members of the doctorate committee is/are unable to attend, the supervisor will have to invite one or more guest opponents. Please send a request for the required dean's approval to the Amsterdam UMC Doctoral Affairs Office** (form below).
  8. Two weeks prior to the defence the supervisor(s) inform(s) the dean/Doctoral Affairs by email** about the order of the opposition (form below).
  9. Note: The language used for the opposition and defence is Dutch. For a non-Dutch speaker the language is English, but they need the consent of the dean/Doctoral Affairs Office**.

*If desired, the PhD candidate may be assisted by two (or max. 3) ceremonial assistants (paranymfen)
