The Amsterdam UMC Doctoral School presents annual awards for the three most outstanding Amsterdam UMC (UvA or VU) PhD candidates' publications

Requirements
- The PhD Publication Award will be granted to the first author of a scientific research publication.
- The publication must be published, or scheduled for publication, between January 1 and December 31, 2025.
- The publication must be included in the candidate’s PhD thesis, which will be (or has been) defended at either the University of Amsterdam or VU University Amsterdam.
- The first author must be registered as an Amsterdam UMC PhD candidate at the Amsterdam UMC Doctoral School.
Selection
- A panel of experienced Amsterdam UMC scientists will evaluate the submissions, focusing on the scientific quality, originality, relevance, and impact of each project.
- During a selection meeting, the committee will determine which three publications will receive an award.
- The PhD candidate/author of the winning publication will be invited by email from the Amsterdam Doctoral School to prepare a brief pitch (3 minutes) about their research article, which they will present at the Science & Awards Day on March 6, 2026.
The winners will be announced during the Science & Awards Day 2026:
- 1st prize: 500 Eur
- 2nd and 3rd prize: 250 Eur

Submit the following documents to the Amsterdam UMC Doctoral School as .pdf files:
- Your publication, and how and when it appears/appeared on the journal website
- In the accompanying email, please answer the following questions in no more than 200 words: Why are you submitting this publication? Why should your paper win the award?
You can submit your publication at any time, up until the deadline of December 8 at the latest.
Please note: After submitting you entry, you will receive a confirmation of receipt from the Doctoral School within two weeks. If you do not receive this confirmation, please contact us!
