To do:

  1. Choose a PhD counsellor together with your PhD candidate
  2. The PhD candidate fills in the Progress Report and will send it to you
  3. Discuss the report with your PhD candidate and sign the report
  4. The PhD candidate will send the document to the PhD counsellor and will plan a meeting with both you and the PhD counsellor
  5. During the meeting:

    1. The first part is together with both the PhD counsellor and your PhD candidate, the second part is just for the PhD counsellor and the PhD candidate together
    2. The PhD candidate will prepare a short presentation for the first part of the meeting, in order to give an overview of the project and the progress that has been made
    3. Discuss the project and the progress
    4. In the second part of the meeting, you can leave. This part will be in private with the PhD counsellor and the PhD candidate so they can talk about issues such as well-being and supervision
  6. The PhD counsellor will provide feedback in the Consultation Form and send it to the PhD candidate. You will receive a copy of the Progress Report but not of the Consultation Form

  • Try to find a PhD counsellor who can give independent advice to you and your PhD candidate about the PhD track
  • Ask the PhD candidate for feedback to improve your own supervision
  • Be realistic about the progress of the project
  • Give the PhD candidate feedback
  • Try to focus on the outline of this PhD project and not the details or on the broader issue
  • Use the advice given by the PhD counsellor during the meeting
