Theme Diversity / HELIUS study
Language English

General

HELIUS is a large multi-ethnic population-based cohort study that started 10 years ago and included a total of 25.000 individuals from 6 different ethnic groups. HELIUS has shown that there are significant ethnic disparities in cardiovascular risk, infectious diseases and mental health that are still largely unexplained and unexplored.

Through its focus on diversity, extensive phenotyping and biobanking HELIUS provides unique possibilities to further explore the nature of these disparities and test the validity of findings that are obtained in European descent populations. Given its ‘FAIR’ structure and inclusive nature HELIUS provides many possibilities for research. In this online presentation HELIUS PI’s, Eric Moll van Charente and Bert-Jan van den Born will focus on the HELIUS data collection, the findings on cardiovascular disease, and discuss future ideas for all who are interested.
