Title talk: Asymptomatic STIs – it’s time to move from a BIG GAME HUNTING to a STEWARDSHIP paradigm
Chris Kenyon is an Infectious Diseases physician and epidemiologist who leads the STI Unit at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp and is an Associate Professor at the University of Cape Town. His research focuses on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in N. gonorrhoeae, non-antibiotic therapies, and new diagnostic tests for syphilis.
In his talk, Chris will challenge the current biomedical approach to STI control, advocating instead for a multilevel ecological framework. This approach better captures the complexities of STI prevalence and promotes a more balanced control strategy. He will present evidence demonstrating how this framework has significantly reduced antimicrobial use in PrEP and other populations.
