About us
The Department of Public and Occupational Health at Amsterdam UMC provides healthcare, education, and, above all, conducts research in the field of employment and health.
The UWV Academic Workplace is a collaborative partnership between the Department of Public and Occupational Health at Amsterdam UMC (AUMC), the Department of Health Sciences, Social Medicine at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), and the Social Medical Affairs Division (SMZ) of the Dutch Employee Insurance Agency (UWV) (https://www.kcvg.nl/nl/).
Our mission
The Dutch Employee Insurance Agency (UWV) is set up as an Academic Workplace (AWP) to strengthen the connection between research, education, and practice.
The Academic Workplace aims to improve the quality and scientific foundation of insurance medicine by developing and evaluating evidence-based methods, guidelines, and practical tools. It also evaluates the effectiveness of interventions. In addition, the AWP promotes the inclusion of insurance medicine in the education of medical students and specialization of insurance physicians.
Connecting research and practice
By bringing together researchers and professionals, the AWP creates a strong link between science and practice. It enables research questions to emerge directly from real-world challenges while ensuring that research findings are translated into practical improvements. In this way, scientific knowledge can have a meaningful impact on daily practice and contribute to better services.
Research
The Academic Workplace (AWP) team serves as the bridge between research and everyday practice. At a minimum, the team includes a practice liaison, who is the main point of contact for communication with professionals in the field, and a senior researcher, who helps translate practical challenges into research questions and provides scientific guidance throughout the research process.

Careers
There are currently no vacancies at the AWP.
However, we are looking for insurance physicians working at UWV who have experience with, or a interest in, scientific research and would like to spend a few hours each week helping to bridge the gap between research and everyday practice at Amsterdam UMC and UMCG.
