At the department of Radiotherapy (Radiation Oncology) of Amsterdam UMC, patients are treated with ionizing radiation.

The scientific research of the department is concentrated on tumors of the brain, head and neck, lung and upper abdomen.

The scientific research of the department is concentrated on tumors of the brain, head and neck, lung and upper abdomen. Research activities (medical, physical and radiobiological) also include studies on the use of PET-scan in radiotherapy and on combined modality treatments.

    Patient Care

    At the department of Radiation Oncology of Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc, patients are treated with ionizing radiation. The majority of them are cancer patients. The department has advanced equipment for the localization op the tumor, treatment planning, simulation, treatment delivery and verification. There is ample experience with the use of newer techniques, such as IMRT and intra- and extracranial stereotactic radiotherapy. The most recent technique is 4D-radiotherapy, using a 16 slice 4D-CT-scanner and respiratory gated radiotherapy.For more information about patient care, visit amsterdamumc.nl
