The ACS Out of the Box (OOTB) grant is for ACS researchers who want to start a new translational collaboration within ACS, for example between preclinical and clinical researchers, and use this grant to strengthen grant application(s) in the near future. Possible options for applications: proof of concept experiments, costs for unique (expensive) imaging or genetics studies or any other innovative ideas which will improve future grant applications. The maximum budget requested per OOTB project can be €50,000.

The 2025 call for ACS OOTB applications is now open! You can submit your application using the ACS OOTB Application Form 2025 (see link below) before the deadline of Thursday 30 October 2025, 11:00 hrs to acs@amsterdamumc.nl
Only applications that are eligible, complete,in the correct format and submitted before the deadline will be considered.
Who can apply
Applicants* who use this grant to start a new collaboration within ACS.
- The proposal has to be submitted by at least two applicants.
- The applicants have not yet published together on the topic of the proposal.
- The applicants have not already received a grant on the project in the proposal.
(*) Please note:
- Applicants need to be at the level of a senior Postdoc (third year in Postdoc position) or higher.
- Applicants need to be affiliated with ACS in PURE and should receive the ACS newsletter. Amsterdam UMC researchers can be affiliated with max. two research institutes and max. two programs per research institute.
- A researcher may only be involved in one application.
Important note – Combination with other grants
Projects may be submitted both to this grant call and to the AII & ACS Synergy Grants call (running in parallel). However, if the project is awarded funding under one of the calls, it cannot receive funding under the other.
Criteria
Your application will be judged by internal reviewers on:
- Quality, novelty and translational value of project plan (40%)
- Quality of the project group and novelty of collaboration (30%) **
- Perspective to fit in ACS and aid future grant applications (30%)
(**) Please note that a pre-clinical - clinical collaboration will receive bonus points to fit the translational value of this grant.
The ACS directorate will review the applications and decide which applications will be granted at the end of 2025.
