General
Following the positive feedback from last year, APH-Quality of Care will be organizing two writing days again in 2026. These will be held on Thursday, January 22, and Friday, January 23, 2026. All Quality of Care members, both junior and senior, are cordially invited to one or both writing days. Both days will take place at the OBA, are free of charge, and we will provide coffee, tea, and lunch!
On Thursday morning, there is the possibility to follow a workshop on writing routines. On Friday morning, there is the possibility to follow a workshop on popular scientific writing. In the afternoon, you can spend your time on your own writing process. For those who do not attend the workshop, there is a separate room where you can work on your own article or grant application.
Information about the workshops
Workshop on writing routines
Writing papers, project proposals and grant applications is one of the most important activities of a scientist. However, scientific writing is difficult. It requires a range of skills and the level of ambition is high. It is usually a solitary activity and scientists can therefore feel that they are the only ones struggling with this process. Moreover, it is often difficult to make enough time for this.
In this short training we discuss the participants' experiences with effective writing, we do creative exercises that help participants with the difficult writing process and with adopting a personal, pleasant and effective writing routine.
Workshop on popular scientific writing
Communication with non-experts is considered a very important skill for the 21st centuryengineer/scientist. An important group of such non-experts, paradoxically, usually include research funders. Therefore, ‘selling’ your work to such ‘critical outsiders’ is an important skill to have, making the skill to interact with non-experts indispensable. In this practical workshop, you learn how to present your work in a popular way, understandable also by people without the same training as you have. Topics include:
- Differences in academic and popular (jounalistic) writing
- Making your work interesting for non-experts
- Structure
