General

Building on the experience of our two earlier editions, we have now organized a brand-new MASLD symposium. On behalf of the AGEM research institute, we cordially invite you to attend. This year’s edition takes place on March 21st and will cover the full translational spectrum focused on ‘MASLD: gearing up for an ever more prevalent liver disease’ .

During the AGEM MASLD symposium we will have lectures by truly eminent experts and excellent young scientists. Registration for this event is free of cost, but required. Please feel free to disseminate in your network and to your (fellow) students. We are confident that many of you will join and look forward to great talks and lively discussions.

Program

During this symposium, five renowned speakers in the MASLD field will share their research, from MASLD and insulin resistance, to organoids as disease models, to the available therapeutics and more. The rest of the program is filled with talks by other experts in the field.

Speakers

    Prof. Lise Lotte Gluud

    University of Copenhagen, Denmark

Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology with focus on lifestyle associated liver disease and a consultant gastroenterologist. Her main research areas are liver diseases with inflammation and steatosis focusing on non-alcoholic steatohepatitis as well as cirrhosis-related complications.

      Dr. Geurt Stokman

      TNO

Senior scientist and project leader at TNO Metabolic Health Research. His research interest is in preclinical models for dyslipidemia, cardiovascular disease, NASH and liver fibrosis.

      Prof. dr. Vlad Ratziu

      Sorbonne University, France

Professor of Hepatology at Sorbonne University, and performs his medical duties at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, France. Ratziu’s main research interests are in the field of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (now MASLD); the mechanisms, risk factors, and progression of liver fibrosis in viral and metabolic diseases; and the treatment of viral hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma.

      Prof. dr. Ellen Blaak

      Maastricht UMC

Professor of Human Biology at the Maastricht UMC. Her research focuses on the interorgan metabolic cross-talk (gut-adipose tissue-muscle metabolism) in the aetiology of obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus as well as the impact of nutritional or lifestyle intervention

      Prof. dr. Max Nieuwdorp

      Amsterdam UMC

Professor of Internal Medicine with a focus on diabetes, and medical doctor in endocrinology at the Amsterdam UMC. His research focus is on the intersection of hormones, intestines and their inhabitants, and human health, hoping to unravel the role of intestinal bacteria in diabetes, MASLD and cardiovascular disease.
