Innovation budget is reserved each year to increase the scientific and societal impact of the research institute. Goals are to generate highly cited papers and to increase translation and successful implementation of scientific findings. Besides innovation grants APH is also investing in talent development of early career researchers by providing the opportunity to apply for travel or writing grants.
The innovation budget is divided equally over the nine APH research programs. Each program annually distributes this budget among its affiliated researchers. Research programs could divide their budget through open calls for research, or for writing and travel grants. In addition to this regular innovation budget, each research program can claim a voucher of €50,000 once every four years, which is intended for proof-of-concept research that is difficult to finance elsewhere.
