Prof. Allard van der Beek and Prof. Karien Stronks, leaders of the prevention theme at Amsterdam UMC, appointed in 2024 Vanessa Nigten as quartermaster for impact development to advise on how APN researchers and educators can enhance their societal impact. Over the past year, Nigten collaborated with APN researchers to develop a report with key recommendations aimed at increasing the impact of health prevention research.

The report emphasizes the importance of collaboration with practical partners such as social organizations and municipalities to address societal challenges like health disparities. Based on these insights, APN plans to strengthen its internal learning network and adopt a more structured, problem-driven approach to public health research.

Van der Beek and Stronks hope that by publishing the advice, it will also inspire others to invest more in achieving societal impact to improve public health and healthcare.
