The standing desk is widely used as a solution to prevent the health risks of prolonged sitting. Pieter Coenen, Research Associate in Public and occupational health, discusses the pros and cons of sit-stand desks on NU.nl.

Prolonged standing also brings its own health risks. Coenen points out that they see many back and leg complaints in people who stand for too long. These complaints can start to occur after just 40 minutes. Coenen therefore advises not to sit or stand still for too long, but to move regularly and change positions as much as possible.
