Marianne van Elteren PhD (Senior Lecturer with the Department of Ethics, Law and Humanities, at the Faculty of Medicine VU Amsterdam) develops, coordinates, and teaches various courses at the faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences, such as Qualitative research methods and Sexual and reproductive health. She is coordinator of the minor module Global Health Indonesia in collaboration with the Universitas Gajah Mada in Yogyakarta. As Research internship co-ordinator Global Health, she supervises worldwide internships, consisting of demand-driven research in low and middle-income countries, and in The Netherlands.
Marianne is a member of the executive committee of the Honours Program of VUmc. She carried out research into halal meals for in-patients at VUmc. Further she participated in the ‘Voorzorg’ (‘Prevention’) study aimed at the prevention of disruptive behaviour and child abuse, and a research on the effects of a cultural sensitive training for migrant women in Amsterdam.
Prior to joining VUmc in 2004, amongst others she carried out research with bone marrow donors and patients for LUmc. She has worked as a consultant in the field of health management. Her PhD research described traditional healthcare amongst various ethnic
groups in The Netherlands. For Novib, she was program manager South-East Asia. She has worked as a primary health care coordinator in Eastern Cameroon.
