On April 6, APH researchers Christiaan Vinkers and Arne Popma spoke with Queen Maxima about the impact of the corona crisis on the mental health of the Dutch population.
During the online conversation, the queen spoke with researchers, psychiatrists, a general practitioner and MIND. Christiaan Vinkers (psychiatrist and associate professor at Amsterdam UMC) and Arne Popma (psychiatrist and professor child and adolescent psychiatry at Amsterdam UMC) shared their research findings and practical experiences. Vinkers, specialized in stress research, spoke about the development of the well-being of the population since the start of corona, about resilience and about the trends of mental health questions in health care.
Popma told the queen about the psychological well-being of the child and adolescents in these corona times. There is a growing group of youth with mental problems, which ask for extra attention. The pressure on the child and adolescent psychiatry rises, because the problems became more serious and there are more admissions for acute psychiatric care.
