On September 2, the very first APH Junified event took place at Rosarium in the Amstelpark, Amsterdam. This event was exclusively for APH early career researchers and ‘The Next Generation Researchers’ was the theme of this edition. The entire event was moderated by Dionne Kringos (Vice Director of APH), who did an amazing job.

The event was kicked off with an inspirational keynote by Prabath Nanayakkara (Professor in Acute Internal Medicine at Amsterdam UMC) about his own life and career path. He provided insight into his life as a refugee and reminded us about the privileged position of researchers in the Netherlands, of course, supported by his own songs. After the plenary opening, three APH researchers participated in a vlogging competition. The vlogs of Kelly de Wildt, Sigrid Polspoel and Veronika Odintsova were displayed on screen. All three made a fantastic storytelling video and showed the audience how you can use video for research purposes. During the afternoon all attendees could vote for the best video. Visit the APH YouTube channel, to watch the three vlogs.

Next up were the workshops. In the workshop Vlogging for Professionals' they learned about the power of videos and why this is an useful tool to share your research with the public. The workshop was hosted by an experienced video producer and combined both theory and practice. The 'Business Sketching' workshop taught the participants about the use of sketching in a professional context. They practiced with sketching and learned how to use sketching for keeping people's attention and for more accessible and clear communication. In the third workshop 'Rock Your Research Profile' participants learned to build an online (researchers) profile, showcasing their unique skills and talents. The fourth workshop 'Game of Skills' aimed to connect junior researchers by developing original, inspiring and innovative research proposals. All workshops were highly valued by the participants.

Dionne Kringos closed the event by announcing that Veronika Odintsova won the 1st prize with her video on twins research. The event ended with drinks & appetizers which was an excellent opportunity to catch-up with colleagues and meet fellow early career researchers. This was a very successful first edition of APH Junified and we hope to see you all at the next APH Junified events!
