In accordance with national regulations, all research conducted within Cancer Center Amsterdam is evaluated every 6 years using the Strategy Evaluation Protocol (SEP). Results of these evaluations can be found below.

The main goal of the SEP is to maintain and improve the quality and societal relevance of research as well as to facilitate continuous dialogue about research quality, societal relevance and viability in the context of research quality assurance. This goal is accomplished by assessing a research unit in light of its own aims and strategy.

The main document that forms the basis for the evaluation is a self-evaluation written by the unit, in which it reflects on its aims, strategy and achievements during the previous six years as well as its aims and strategy for the future. The unit presents these elements in a coherent, narrative argument and supports this narrative, wherever possible, with factual evidence derived from well-substantiated indicators. The narrative is further illustrated by one or more case studies.

2016-2017

Before 2016, there was only a cancer institute on the VUmc side, called VUmc-CCA. In 2016, as part of the alliance between AMC and VUmc, the Cancer Center Amsterdam alliance research institute was established. In this new institute, the oncology section of the existing research institute on the VUmc side was merged with all oncology researchers from AMC.
Therefore, in 2016 VUmc-CCA was evaluated without the AMC research. Results of this evaluation can be found on the VU website.
In 2017 the oncology research at AMC was evaluated as part of the strategic evaluation of the AMC as a whole. Results of this evaluation can be found on the University of Amsterdam (UvA) website.

2017-2022

The institute conducted its 6-year evaluation using the SEP, covering the first six years of the merged Cancer Center Amsterdam: 2017-2022. An important first step was the creation of a self-evaluation report:

2023

November 9 and 10, 2023, an external committee came to the Amsterdam UMC for a site visit, to complete the evaluation of our research institute. These days were filled with relatively formal interview sessions on the following topics: introduction to CCA, CCA research programs, oncology graduate school, PhD students, Postdocs/young clinical researchers, business development & valorization, regional science, societal impact and open science. Based on these interviews and the Cancer Center Amsterdam self-evaluation report, the committee wrote an assessment report, including reviews of the mentioned topics and several recommendations for the future.
